  • Intended learning outcomes

Acquire knowledge of the main techniques used in the evaluation and control of environmental risks:
Identify risk factors for health and the causes of their presence in the environment; Identify methods of
measurement and analysis suitable for different environmental risks; Knowing and select technical
solutions for eliminating or minimizing the impact on the environment and human health.

  • Syllabus:

Control systems: Indoor air quality in health units; Air conditioning and ventilation systems ; Filtration
    systems ; Clean Rooms.
Assessment and monitoring of water quality; foodstuffs; waste management; heat waves; disease vectors.

  • Evidence of the syllabus coherence with the curricular unit’s intended learning outcomes:

Detailed analysis using in addition to discussion of several scientific articles on the subject. During class
are simulated various situations of study cases, in order to put into practice the knowledge acquired to
facilitate intervention in real work context.

  • Teaching methodologies

The pedagogical methodology includes recourse to expository method and the interrogative. Where
applicable, the active method is used by realisation of practical exercises in class. The evaluation of this
course is done by performing two exams and practical exercises in the classroom.

  • Evidence of the teaching methodologies coherence with the curricular unit’s intended learning outcomes:

Students perform the practical application of knowledge obtained in theoretical classes, through the
analysis of legal and technical documents and scientific papers that provide scientific support to the
issues addressed. On theoretical-practical component are made group work, exploratory nature,
associated with the theoretical contents and analyse scientific papers on the themes taught.
