Gonçalo A. Gonçalves received a degree and PhD in Mechanical Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon in Portugal, where he coordinated the VP-Lab: Vehicle and Propulsion Laboratory.

He is currently an Adjunct Professor at the Mechanical Engineering Department of Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa, teaching classes on Internal Combustion Engines and Fluid Mechanics. He is a member of the research unit IDMEC/UL, part of LAETA - Associated Laboratory for Energy, Transports and Aeronautics. 

He has been involved in projects related to vehicle telematics and currently works in the maintenance department at Carris - Companhia Carris de Ferro de Lisboa.
