Pedro Manuel Fernandes Carvalho da Silva

Pedro Fernandes Silva is Professor in the Department of Physics at the Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa (ISEL) and Invited Professor at the Department of Geographic Engineering, Geophysics and Energy at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (FCUL). He holds a PhD in Physics - Geophysical Sciences, from the University of Lisbon.

He is currently Vice-President of ISEL, senior researcher at the Associate Laboratory - Instituto Dom Luiz (IDL) and member of the Executive Board of the Collaboratory for Geosciences (C4G).

His research focuses essentially on the characterization of several physical properties of ferromagnetic minerals and their application to geophysical / geological processes, such as, environmental magnetism, secular variation of the Earth’s magnetic field, plate tectonics assessed by paleomagnetic and geomagnetic studies, intrusive igneous processes, sedimentary deposits associated with high energy mass transport events, and Geohazards associated with tsunamis, landslides and instability of volcanic islands.
