Intended learning outcomes

A student completing this course unit should be able to:

  1. Comprehend the function of each constituent basic blocks of a baseband digital communication system: signal coding, line coding and error control, coding;
  2. Understand the limitations of the transmission channel and methods to overcome them;
  3. Develop, simulate, test and assess the constituent basic blocks of a digital communication system;
  4. Describe and assess the attributes of the constituent basic blocks of a baseband digital communication system, understand the commitments involved and compare alternative methods;
  5. Write reports describing the implemented blocks and where results are analysed and compared and decisions are justified.
