Intended learning outcomes
  • Know about methods of production and isolation of primary and stem cells, processes of immortalization and for cell line maintenance.
  • Understand the importance of cell metabolism for cell and tissue culture and be familiar with developmental biology in order to recognise different types of cells and tissues.
  • Learn the concepts of tissue organization, the relevance of the extracellular matrix, cell-cell communication, significant interactions between cells and matrix and biomaterial.
  • Provide an integrated background on biomaterials for potential tissue engineering applications, including biomaterial scaffold fabrication and characterization.
  • Be able to identify cell therapy and tissue engineering strategies applied to regenerative medicine.
