Intended learning outcomes

General Chemistry address issues of fundamental knowledge in Chemistry, providing the students the requirements to support a sustained development of the course. Therefore, the students will acquire the following specific chemical knowledge and transferable skills:

  1. Understand atomic structure, periodicity of elements in the periodic table, and simple quantum mechanical treatments of atoms and molecules.
  2. Identify the different types of chemical bond, their theories and application.
  3. Structurally characterize and predict geometries of molecular species.
  4. Relate macroscopic properties of various states of matter to intermolecular forces.
  5. Understand the behavior and properties of all types of crystalline solids.
  6. Predict the evolution of chemical systems and the energies involved: an introduction to thermodynamics
  7. Understand the construction and functionalities of electrochemical cells.
