Intended learning outcomes

The students will acquire the following specific chemical knowledge and transferable skills:

  1. Understand the behaviour and properties of all types of solid state inorganic compounds.
  2. Identify the common structural arrangements of coordination compounds and ligands. Apply the nomenclature rules of metal transition complexes.
  3. Describe and characterise the isomeric forms of metal transition complexes.
  4. Explain the magnetic properties and electronic spectra of coordination compounds. Understand the reactivity of the complexes as well as the most important reaction mechanisms.
  5. Prepare, execute, develop and optimise practical experiences related with the theoretical course provided and the handling of inorganic compounds within the proper safety considerations.
  6. Handle simple equipments and sample preparation for compound characterisation techniques.
