The PhD program in Decarbonisation and Energy Transition from ISEL aims to teach highly specialised PhD graduates within these themes, having a solid base in Engineering of related areas that will allow them to perform well in companies, regulating bodies, universities and/or R&D centres, in what concerns definition, design and implementation of energy systems both at economic and conceptual engineering levels, which comprises na assessment of economic available resources and its rentability during its life cycle as well as an integration in energy markets.

In order to attain the stated objectives, it is intended that the PhD graduates will have deep knowledge on subjects related to the accessibility of energy sources, systems of generation and distribution of energy, clean technologies, low carbon technologies, resource economy, barriers to implementation, energy global subjects, strategies related to formation and regulation of energy tariffs as well as integration on global and regional energy markets.

The PhD graduates will develop, apart from the curricular units, a thesis where economy and Management will be integrated with engineering subjects. Thesis will be focused in solving real problems (even at a theoretical level) highly complex and, preferably, in entrepreneurial environments. Teaching of this program will be totally presential, with a total of 210 ECTS and a total duration of 3 and a half years.

The body of teachers consists of PhD professors of ISEL, in the areas of Engineering, Economy and Management and Energy, whereas teaching will include seminars with specialised talks from specialists from the entrepreneurial environment, regulating bodies from the energy sector and researchers in these areas.
