The ISEL PhD Program in Decarbonization and Energy Transition is designed to address the emerging challenges of the transition to a low-carbon economy and the growing need for highly qualified specialists in the field of sustainable energy. Accredited by A3ES for six years, with a planned start in the 2026/2027 academic year, this program offers advanced and multidisciplinary training, integrating knowledge from Engineering, Economics, and Management.
Aimed at candidates with a strong background in Engineering or related fields, the PhD program aims to develop high-level skills in the design, sizing, and implementation of sustainable energy systems, as well as in the economic evaluation of their viability and integration into energy markets. The training provides an in-depth understanding of the challenges associated with access to energy sources, clean and low-carbon technologies, environmental sustainability, energy sector regulation, and efficient resource management.
In addition to the curricular component, students will develop a research thesis focused on solving real and complex problems, preferably in a business context, promoting the connection between academia and the economic fabric. Lasting approximately three and a half years and totaling 210 ECTS credits, the program also benefits from the participation of PhD professors and invited experts from companies, regulatory bodies, and research centers.
This PhD program therefore represents an excellent opportunity to train leaders and researchers capable of actively contributing to the decarbonization of the economy and the construction of a more sustainable energy future.
