The mission of the Department of Physics (DoP) is to equip engineering students with a solid background in physics, as well as the scientifically-underpinned ability to think critically, through the provision of teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Our strongly laboratory-based courses are designed to develop the technical and scientific skills required by future engineers.

DoP staff are highly qualified, scientifically very active and strongly committed to excellence in teaching and research in areas that include, but are not limited to, Condensed Matter Physics and Materials Science, Nanotechnology, Geophysics, and Theoretical Particle Physics.

The DoP’s proposal for a new 1st-cycle degree programme in Applied Physical Engineering has recently been greenlighted by the Agency for Assessment and Accreditation in Higher Education. It is hoped that this substantial new study opportunity at ISEL will soon be available to both home and international students.
