Intended learning outcomes

To learn about best practices associated with personal disaster preparedness and community-level disaster preparedness

  • Describe the hazards and impacts that threaten communities
  • Identify information and warning products
  • Describe important characteristics of each area that contribute to vulnerability.
  • The course also provides the student with an understanding of the necessary plans and tools needed in planning for natural and human-induced disasters. It will help them better understand and identify vulnerable individuals and groups and the best-equipped groups (in each community) to address response and recovery requirements in the case of an actual disaster.
  • Outline strategies to increase social capital for natural disaster preparedness
  • Identify possible adaptation options in their community.
