The aim of this curricular unit is to enable students to acquire technical and scientific knowledge in the area of sustainable construction, including:

1. Develop knowledge about the impact of the construction sector on the environment and on strategies for saving energy.
2. Analyze urban development and major impacts on the challenge of sustainable construction.
3. Identify tools for evaluating life cycle of materials and buildings.
4. Develop knowledge on the use of natural resources, energy and environmental impact.
5. Develop knowledge on reducing consumption and minimizing waste (through reuse or recycling) and to promote energy efficiency
6. Identify the materials, processes and sustainable building systems.
7. Identify strategies to reduce the consumption of materials and waste, as well as understand and evaluate the construction and demolition waste (C&D).
