Intended learning outcomes

Understand and discuss the typical components of a generic electronic telemetry system, focusing on signal conditioning electronics for sensors and actuators, integrated circuit interconnection interfaces and transport of medium and long distance information (in networks with and without wires).
At the end of the course unit students should be able to understand and use:

  1. all signal conditioning circuits addressed;
  2. signal conditioning topologies, adapting them to the concrete case of a sensor or actuator;
  3. signal conditioning circuits suitable for sensor and actuator specifications;
  4. the most common interfaces for the interconnection of integrated circuits: SPI, I2C, I2S, etc., testing them in concrete cases in the laboratory;
  5. RS-485 and CAN bus type networks, as well as LoRa, Sigfox, NB-IoT low power wireless (LPWAN) networks;
  6. the typical components of a SCADA system and have the basics of networking for home automation.
