Intended learning outcomes
  1. Understand the object-relational model and its support to 2D geometries according to OGC standards.
  2. Employ the “theme algebra” (relational algebra extension) to formulate queries with geometric and alphanumeric data.
  3. Construct the conceptual model extended with geometries and topological constraints.
  4. Construct topological matrixes to compose constraints and queries; choose and adapt a pattern matrix to satisfy project requirements.
  5. Construct geometries via SQL (e.g., in PostGIS) and integrate with layer-based graphical presentation (e.g., in QuantumGIS).
  6. Understand the 3D representation and integration in the object-relational (e.g., X3D in PostGIS); implement scene¬- graphs with grouping nodes and with event generation and animations.
  7. Understand Boolean and vector models to represent non-structured information.
  8. Employ indexation process and information retrieval techniques using reference system (e.g., Lucene); choose distance metrics to satisfy project requirements.
