The application for the scientific infrastructure Collaboratory for Geosciences (C4G), led by the Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa (ISEL) and submitted to the Lisboa 2030 – FEDER programme, was approved with overall funding for the consortium of 2.319 million euros. The project is coordinated by professors Graça Silveira and Pedro Silva (Department of Physics at ISEL) and professor Mário Abel Gonçalves (Department of Geology at FCUL).

In this operation, ISEL takes the lead and participates with an allocated budget, in consortium with the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (FCUL) and the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), also with its own funding. The application also includes the collaboration of the Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera (IPMA), the Direção-Geral do Território (DGT) and the Instituto de Geografia e Ordenamento do Território (IGOT), without budget allocation within the scope of this operation.

C4G is a research infrastructure in the area of Solid Earth Sciences (CTS), which promotes collaboration between researchers and the sharing of equipment, data and tools. The project aims to strengthen cooperation between Brazilian institutions in this area and provide scientific services in the areas of natural hazards, the environment and georesources. As an integral part of the European infrastructure ESFRI EPOS (European Plate Observing System), C4G reinforces Portugal's role in the European scientific panorama.

As part of this application, ISEL is counting on the participation of professors from the Geophysics area of the Physics Department (DF), who intend to continue the laboratories created during the previous phase of the C4G infrastructure. In this new phase, ISEL's intervention is expanded with the integration of professors from the Chemical Engineering Department (DEQ), in the areas of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, and Environment and Energy, with special emphasis on the valorization of Environmental Chemistry. This expansion allows C4G to strengthen its work in the areas of georesources, natural hazards and the environment, promoting a more interdisciplinary and comprehensive approach.
